Harry Potter Month House Cup

As you may have heard, Micheline and I are hosting Harry Potter month throughout the month of July – a celebration of all things Harry Potter! If you’d like to join in, feel free! You can post about pretty much anything Harry Potter related, or take part in the House Cup at any time throughout the month, and we’d love to have you share your love for HP!

So, if you’re here, I’m hoping you’re interested in taking part in the Harry Potter Month House Cup! To take part is really really simple:

  1. Leave a comment below with which House you’d like to be in, (I’ll put up a list of those already Sorted below)
  2. Have fun doing any of the tasks below!
  3. Come back as often as you like and leave a comment with any points you’ve earned, and I’ll add them to your House’s total
  4. Once a week I’ll recap the points so far, and on the 2nd of August I’ll declare one house the House Cup Winners
  5. Enjoy, and maybe win a prize 😉

What if I want want to change House?

If you decide you’d like to change House, you can do that any time before you’ve earned points (otherwise it becomes too confusing for me to keep totals right!)

Rules are boring – just tell me how to earn the points!

Read a Harry Potter fanfiction: 1 point per chapter (let us know which in the comments!)
Leave a comment on any Harry Potter month post: 2 points
Waching a HP documentary: 3 points
Complete a Pottermore chapter (let us know which!): 4 points
Write HP fanfiction: 3 points per chapter
Watch one of the films: 5 points
Reading one of the Hogwarts Library/Companion books: 6 points
Post as part of Harry Potter month: 10 points
Take part in HP Moment of the Week: 10 points
Make a Harry Potter craft/recipe: 15 points
Host a giveaway: 15 points
Read one of the books: 20 points

** Tasks can be combined (within reason!) E.g.  If you write a fanfiction chapter (3 points) and then post about it (10 points), you can combine to get 13 points overall (but you can’t post four times about the same fanfiction chapter and claim the points four times!) **

How do I update my points?

Just leave a comment below with your name, house and any points you’ve earned since you last commented.  Something like this would do perfectly:

If you’d rather skip the maths, feel free! Just let me know which tasks you completed and I’ll do my best to add everything up correctly.

Is there a prize?

One participant will win a book of their choice (up to £10) from The Book Depository (assuming you’re in one of the countries they deliver to) OR a £10 Amazon.co.uk gift card – their choice.  For every house point you earn, you’ll get one entry into the prize draw.  You can sign up for the cup until the 23rd of July, and you’ve got until midnight BST on the 1st of August to comment with your points for them to count.  I’ll announce the winner on Sunday 2nd August via Twitter and/or email.

    1. Hi Christina, fair question, and honestly, no idea! I’m still WAY back on Chamber of Secrets, so I did some searching and the Pottermore Wiki has each of those 6 pages as moments in different chapters. On their moments page they say chapters are divided into 2-4 moments, so does it seem fair to you if we say that three moments is the same as one chapter? (with the logic that 3 moments is about average per chapter?) That’d give you 8 points for these 6 pages, the same as if you’d done two chapters from start to end?

  98. Eep, I should really update where I’m at! I’ve forgotten to do so until now X)

    Okay, so far I’ve read the first five books and watched the first five movies and I’ve been completed the first five books on Pottermore as I go…

    So hopefully I’ll get this right:
    For Aylee (Hufflepuff):
    5 books read = 5 x 20 = 100
    5 films watched = 5 x 5 = 25

    Pottermore chapters are a bit trickier because I’ve noticed that the later books are sadly very incomplete and they skip a lot of the chapters. But from what I can tell, I’ve completed:
    106 Pottermore chapters = 106 x 4 = 424

    And I’ve commented on 7 posts so far = 7 x 2 = 14

    I hope this makes sense! Hopefully someone can let me know if I’ve done something wrong, especially with respect to the Pottermore chapters because that seems like a hell of a lot of points. And I’ll try to update more regularly from here on out so I don’t lose track.

    Completed HBP Pottermore (only 12 out of 30 chapters of HBP are up on Pottermore, but I did them all): 12 x 4 = 48 points

    And I’ve commented on a few posts since my last update… one of Micheline’s, one of Alex’s, one of Kim’s, one of Jaclyn’s… I feel like I’m forgetting one, but those four I know for sure: 4 x 2 = 8

    So that’s 81 points total.

    Any tasks completed within the final ~48 hours of the House Cup are worth DOUBLE THE POINTS!

    This is a couple of hours early since I’ll be in bed, but any points earned after midnight tonight UK time are worth double points – just claim them the same way you normally do but for twice as many points (and of course twice as many giveaway entries!)

    [A further twist is that Micheline & I will also be announcing a few awards for certain people on Saturday/Sunday which will come with extra house points – you’ll have to wait and see what they are though!]
