Looking Ahead: October 2015

What’s on in October?

I don’t really have any specific plans for October yet, except for Halloween (a night of cocktails and creepy video games).  I’ve found a part-time job which is a couple of days each week (though I’m hoping to pick up some overtime as Christmas approaches).  I’ll be working on writing up my dissertation for publication (which sounds really official but trust me, I’ve no idea what I’m doing!) and that’s about all I have planned!  So, what else will I be doing?  Well…
  • Lifestyle: Now that I have extra time, I’d really like to focus on going to the gym and eating more healthily. My weight stayed pretty consistent through MSc year, but a lot higher than where I’d like it to be, so I’m hoping to take control of that!
  • Blogging: I’m taking part in Blog Ahead, and also preparing for sci-fi month, which I’m seriously excited for, so I’m planning to put some hours into blogging this month.
  • NaNo consideration/prep: MSc year was just never going to work with NaNoWriMo, but this year I feasibly could take part… There’s just the minor problem that I have no burning ideas!  I want to take some time this month to play around, brainstorm and see if I can come up with something to run with, because I do love to write.
  • Games & fun: Gaming has been a sadly non-existent hobby for the last year and I’d really like to get back into it (I pretty much suck at games, but I enjoy them!).  Similarly, there are plenty of TV shows/films I’ve never made time to give a chance to, and I feel like now, while things are reasonably calm is a great time to try and squeeze them in.

Last month’s TBR list

Queen of Shadows | Completed
Fool’s Quest
| Completed
A Thousand Pieces of You | Completed
The Martian | Completed

A great month for sticking to my list – I managed to finish everything on my monthly TBR list!

October’s TBR list

Snow Like Ashes | Review copy
Ice Like Fire
| Review copy
The White Rose| Review copy

I’m keeping my TBR list reasonably small despite the free timeI have this month for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, I’m just not sure what I fancy reading at the moment, and secondly, I’ve no idea yet whether writing up my dissertation is going to be a one day a week sort of commitment or a five days a week one, so I don’t want to set my goals too high, especially with all the other things I want to get done this month!

What do you have planned for October?

  1. Ahhhh I love Halloween and your plan to celebrate sounds like perfection to me 🙂 I’m always pretty healthy with my eating since I have tons of food intolerances but now that I finally have a job in my field again I feel like it’s motivating me to add variety and be even better, which makes me really happy. Plus me and the bf have started hiking again and we’ve been doing awesome!

You did really awesome with your reading goals for September and you read some sweet titles too 😀 Here’s to a wonderfully bookish (and spooky) October! Cheers Faith ♥
