Top Ten Tuesday (#80): Top Ten Historical Settings You’d Love To See

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted at The Broke and The Bookish where they post a list idea and everyone is welcome to post the list with their own answers. This week we’re talking about historical or futuristic settings.  My history knowledge is pretty pathetic, and I’d love to read more historical fiction (I haven’t read much, but I have enjoyed what I’ve read) so I’m going with “Top Ten Historical Settings I’d Love To See”.  If you have any historical fiction recommendations for these settings (or any other historical fiction you love), please let me know in the comments!

The Mongol Empire

By far my favourite historical fiction series of the few I’ve read so far is Conn Iggulden’s Conqueror series, a fictional account of Genghis Khan.  He, and the whole time period, is pretty fascinating so I’d love to read more books set in the Mongol Empire.

Jurassic period

Okay, I have to admit I don’t know how this one would work – time travelling humans? No humans at all? I don’t know, but I just want to read about dinosaurs.

Middle-Late Pleistocene

Admittedly, I had to google the right term for this but basically… Neanderthals. Awesome or what?!

Ancient Greece & Ancient Egypt

Ancient history is definitely more my cup of tea than modern, and both the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Egyptians were fascinating.  These are probably the time periods that interest me most, and have done since I was a kid so I’d love to read books set in either of these time periods.

Vikings

Let’s be honest, Vikings are just cool, right?  Snorri, the Viking in Mark Lawrence’s Prince of Fools was an awesome character!

The Renaissance

The philosophy, the science, the art… so many areas that I’d love to read about in this time period.

The Last Ice age

I mostly just want to read about Mammoths to be honest, but that’s enough of a reason, right?

Apartheid

This isn’t an ancient period at all, but something fairly recent and that I know embarassingly little about, but I’d love to read more about it.

Salem Witch Trials

While the Salem Witch trials definitely aren’t the only witch trials in history, they’re the most famous, and I’d love to read a story set during them.

What historical or futuristic settings would you love to read about?
