June TBR – The one with all the manga!

TBRMemeMy TBR list is a meme hosted by Michelle at Because Reading which aims to help knock a few books off our TBR piles by letting everyone else vote on what we should read!

I missed last month because I am useless, but I couldn’t miss another month! This month I’ve picked three manga series I’ve heard great things about.

Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she’s only interested in his body—eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.

I know this series is insanely popular, and I’ve been debating watching the anime on Netflix, so I figured why not give the manga a try?!

A family with an ancient curse…

And the girl who will change their lives forever…

Tohru Honda was an orphan with no place to go until the mysterious Sohma family offered her a place to call home. Now her ordinary high school life is turned upside down as she’s introduced to the Sohma’s world of magical curses and family secrets.

This is one that other bloggers in particular have raved about, but I know next to nothing about it.  Still, I figure it’s definitely worth a chance, especially since there are plenty of other shojo manga I really want to read.

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects – and he’s bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami, a death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal…or his life?

This is a manga classic, and yet I’ve never read it! When my friends read it as teenagers, I ended up hearing so much about it there were no surprises left for me, so I never bothered reading it.  Now, there’s been enough time for me to forget all about it, so I figure it might finally be time to pick this up.

Which manga series should I start?
