The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, Twitter chats, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 26 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
This is something like my 18th Bout of Books by now (ish, I haven’t had chance to actually go back through and add them all up yet), and it’s one of my favourite readathons to take part in because it’s quite low pressure, all about beating your own targets and everyone is so supportive. I aimed for 1000 pages last time, and I’m going to do the same again this time, because that’s slightly above my average pages per day so far for the year (currently at about 110). It’s the holidays which means I should read more, BUT I also have a lot of preparation to do before I start my first year as a teacher.
I’m going to be doing things slightly differently for this bout of books in two ways: firstly, I’ve deliberately been to the library and picked up a few graphic novels & shorter books, and secondly, I’ll be posting updates on Instagram/twitter, with a final wrap-up post on here. I’ve stocked up on graphic novels and shorter titles because I’ll be reading Dark Age, which is enormous, and also because I think there’ll be times when my brain is a bit frazzled from lesson planning and it might not be up to a mammoth sci-fi title, but will still want to be involved! I don’t have a set TBR as such – I’ll be focusing primarily on Dark Age and The Dragon Republic but they’re both huge, so I don’t know if I’ll finish both (or either!). I’ll be mixing in whatever else I fancy from the other titles below as the week goes on, but I’m definitely not aiming to finish all of these!
