Catch up on 2012!

Catch up on 2012

With just under 6 weeks to go unti 2013 begins, if you have overdue things to catch up on, now is the chance to do it!

Whether it’s reading, reviewing, commenting more or planning out posts, the idea is to knock a few things off your blogging to do list.  I’ll be adding a link up here for anyone who wants to post goals, and another on the 27th of December (right before new years) for a recap post.

If you need some public accountability and support, sign up below 🙂 If not, I’ll be going ahead alone, because I definitely do!!

My goals are:

November goals

There’s only 8 weeks left until the end of the year – how is everyone coping with their New Year’s Resolutions?

Oh, you forgot about them? No worries, most people do! Now, with only a short time left this year, it’s a great opportunity to think about what you could achieve before the end of 2012.

Maybe there are some little-ish things you’ve been putting off:
– cleaning out your email inbox
– tidying that weird pile of junk that’s accumulated next to the bed
– phoning that friend you meant to call weeks ago
– Going to the dentist

Maybe you’ve got a few things you really need to do, or things you want to do but haven’t found time for
– reading a particular book
– Outfit planning so you can finally wear things hidden in your wardrobe
– binning old, out of date make-up

Whatever it is, commit to it! I always find by announcing my goals somewhere I’m much more likely to stick to them – I don’t want to come back and admit I didn’t get anything done.

Aim high and select more goals than you can actually do, that way at least you’ll make some good progress. Or start small, and add more goals if you finish them, whatever works for you.

My goals for November:

Uni assignments
1. Climate change essay (by November 16th)
2. Practical write up (by tomorrow!)
3. Taxonomy poster (by November 12th)
4. Frog presentation (By November 12th)

Noticing how the first half of November kinda sucks?!

Online
1. To reach 400 posts/$10 on Mylot (whichever comes first)
2. To post on StudentSpyglass at least 15 times
3. To reach 6 million neopoints on Neopets (I know, I’m a big kid – but need something to cheer me up after all that work!)

Media & Life in General
1. To catch up on Glee
2. To finish at least 4 books (hopefully including re-reading the Hobbit in time for the film)
3. To come up with 5 Christmas present ideas each for my mum, dad, sister and boyfriend
4. To go on a great date for our anniversary at the end of the month
5. To pick my favourite 5 masters courses so far, and figure out how and when to apply for them

Wow, might be taking on a little much…..nah! Anything I can tick off that list will make me happy. What are you hoping to achieve this month? I love hearing everyone’s goals – it always gives me ideas!

Or maybe you think goal setting is a waste of time and would rather take life as it comes? Tell me either way!

2012 Goals: Quarterly Review, September

As we’re now three-quarters of the way through the year, I thought it was a good idea to review my goals for 2012.  Here are the goals I set when I started blogging.

Blog:
– Have at least 100 posts published on here – Ahead – 90 at the moment, so 100 will definitely be achievable.
– Have 25 followers- On track – I should have specified how they were following, because in terms of emails I’m on track, but on RSS I’m nowhere near.  So for now, we’ll stick to emails and up it to 75 (why not aim high?!)
– Sort out a layout I’m happy with – On track – I don’t mind my layout at the minute, but I think it could be improved.
– Have at least 1 guest post or write a guest post somewhere else – Not on track – Haven’t even thought about it!
– Host at least 1 giveaway – Not on track – Must do this soon!

Uni, Career & Finance:
– Pass the second year of my degree with a first – Complete – Finished first year with 7% over.
New goal: Pass third year with a first.
– Gain some vaguely animal related work experience – Not on track – I’ve been emailing and emailing, but no luck so far 🙁
– Eliminate my overdraft (a very ambitious goal) – Not on track – I’ll finish the summer slightly overdrawn BUT when I get back to uni that’ll increase again.
– Budget my spending each week, and compare the budget to my actual spending (preferably publicly) – Not on track – Will start when I get to uni!

Creative:
– Make at least 5 things out of polymer clay – Not on track – 0/5 – Must get motivated!
– Make and try at least 1 alcohol infusion – Not on track – 0/1 – It’ll be a fun thing to do when I’m in the middle of nowhere at uni
– Try 10 new recipes – On track – 5/10
– Read 50 books – On track – 39/50

Health & Fitness:
– Pass another karate grading – On track – Impossible over summer as I’m not training!
– Lose 1 stone to get to my (flexible) goal weight of 9 stone 4. Stop before then if happy, keep going if not! – On track
– Complete the Advanced Open Water Diving course – Complete!

Complete: 2
Ahead/On track: 7
Need to focus on: 7

2012 Goals

I’ve been very unfocused about my goals in 2012, probably because I didn’t write them down! I’m definitely better at sticking to things if they’re written down to remind me, so my targets for 2012 are being publicly announced here, also making me accountable!  I’m starting each of these goals today, since I’ve been so lax about them so far.

Blog:
– Have at least 100 posts published on here
– Have 25 followers (I’ve no idea whether this is an easy or ridiculously unobtainable goal yet!)
– Sort out a layout I’m happy with
– Have at least 1 guest post or write a guest post somewhere else
– Host at least 1 giveaway

Uni, Career & Finance:
– Pass the second year of my degree with a first
– Gain some vaguely animal related work experience
– Eliminate my overdraft (a very ambitious goal)
– Budget my spending each week, and compare the budget to my actual spending (preferably publicly)

Creative:
– Make at least 5 things out of polymer clay
– Make and try at least 1 alcohol infusion
– Try 10 new recipes
– Read 50 books

Health & Fitness:
– Pass another karate grading
– Lose 1 stone to get to my (flexible) goal weight of 9 stone 4. Stop before then if happy, keep going if not!
– Complete the Advanced Open Water Diving course

Hopefully I’ll have knocked off all of these by Christmas 2012. Then I have that strange period between Christmas and New Years Eve to figure out my 2013 goals.
