Announcing: Harry Potter Month (3.0)!

HP month badge2016

In July 2015 myself and Micheline ran Harry Potter Month 2.0 and had an absolute blast! This year it’s back, and hopefully it’ll be bigger and better than ever, because we absolutely loved writing for it, reading and sharing your awesome posts, and competing in the House Cup!

What’s Harry Potter Month?!

In case you weren’t aware last year or need a recap, Harry Potter month is basically a month long celebration of all things Harry Potter!  We chose July because it ends with Harry’s birthday, and of course this year it’s also building up to the release of the Harry Potter & The Cursed Child script book.

There are two main ways to join in:
1) Posting Harry Potter related blog posts any time throughout the month
2) Participating in the House Cup – earning points for your House and trying to win the House Cup!

You can do one or the other or both, and there’s no minimum or maximum number of posts if you want to post.

What can I post about?

Pretty much anything as long as it has SOMETHING to do with Harry Potter! For example you could post….

  • Reviews of the books or films
  • Comparisons of the books v the films
  • Favourites lists: characters, quotes, scenes, pairings
  • Inspired by Harry Potter: Fashion, make up, nail art, recipes
  • If you liked Harry Potter you might like…. books, tv shows, films etc
  • Fanfiction: Fanfics you’ve enjoyed, fanfics you’ve written, fanfic challenges you’ve taken part in or would like to take part in
  • Discussions: Such as Why you love Harry Potter, which House you think you’d be and why,
  • Harry Potter crafts: wallpapers, bookmarks, icons, recipes, drink recipes
  • Harry Potter parties: Game ideas, decor ideas, drinking games

What’s the House Cup all about?

You choose your Hogwarts House, and then have fun earning points by completing any of a number of tasks, such as watching one of the films, commenting on other bloggers’ posts, making a HP related craft or playing on Pottermore! The full list of tasks and their points will go up on the 1st of July, but it was huge fun last year, and there will be a giveaway involved!  Last year Hufflepuff got twice as many points as any other House – will it be the same this year?!

How do I get involved? / I’m not sure but maybe!

We’ll each have a linky for posts, (as well as a House Cup sign up post) going up on Friday 1st July, so just pop back then if you want to take part 🙂

We hope to see you soon!

Announcing: Harry Potter Month (2.0)!

In July 2014, I hosted Harry Potter Month and I’m very pleased to announce that in July 2015 it will be back – hopefully even better than the first time! That’s because this year I’m co-hosting with Micheline and I’m very excited to have her on board!

If you think it sounds interesting, please just add yourself to the HP Month spreadsheet here!

We’re not looking for anyone to send schedules back now or anything like that, and there’s no minimum involvement so if you get swamped with real life we understand! If you decide on any posts or dates between now and July then feel free to add them to the Schedule workbook on the HP Month spreadsheet, and on the 30th of June, Micheline and I will be posting a schedule for the month based on that. If you’d rather make it up as you go along, that’s fine too!We may also have readalongs or watchalongs depending on interest, so if you’re interested in taking part (or even hosting!) either of those, let me or Micheline know and we’ll get things arranged.

We hope to see you soon!

Harry Potter MotW: Best Dumbledore moment

[This is a response to Leah’s Harry Potter moment of the week. If you’d like to join in, head on over to Uncorked Thoughts for the full schedule of upcoming themes!]

The theme of this week’s Harry Potter Moment of the Week is Best ‘Dumbledore Moment’.

Ah, this week is tough – Dumbledore has so many great moments!  I debated about this one for a while, but there’s one Dumbledore moment that stands out the most as being so awesome, so epic, and just to kick ass…

Dumbledore was on his feet again, pale as any of the surrounding Inferi, but taller than any, too, the fire dancing in his eyes; his wand was raised like a torch and from its tip emanated the flames, like a vast lasso, encircling them all with warmth.

Dumbledore definitely has plenty of other great moments to choose from, from employing Dobby to his wise comments, but this is the iconic image of Dumbledore as the powerful wizard, the only one Voldemort ever feared.

I’m cheating a tiny bit this week – as well as picking a favourite Dumbledore moment, I’ve also picked a few favourite Dumbledore quotes too 😉 You should be able to download the bookmarks here.

Harry Potter MotW: Least favourite book

[This is a response to Leah’s Harry Potter moment of the week. If you’d like to join in, head on over to Uncorked Thoughts for the full schedule of upcoming themes!]

The theme of this week’s Harry Potter Moment of the Week is least favourite book.

This is a tough one because it feels a bit like if you asked me which of my pets was my least favourite: it feels evil to pick one! (Having said that, I’m going to anyways)  I know which book is my favourite but least favourite is tougher.  After a little bit of thought though I think my least favourite book of the Harry Potter series (not including the companion novels because that feels like cheating) is…

For one thing, Order of the Phoenix has Umbridge.  For another, Harry is so angry (justifiably a lot of the time, but still frustrating).  There’s also the whole Cho/Harry romance but to be honest I never really warmed up to Cho so this wasn’t exactly gripping for me.  We also have Sirius’ death which is obviously not cool!

Having said that, I still love it of course 😉 Order of the Phoenix has Dumbledore’s Army, some fantastic Luna moments and Dobby (<3).  I also think some of the funniest moments from the series are tucked into this book – Fred and George’s leaving and the post-kiss conversation between Ron, Hermione and Harry.  I just think if I had to choose my least favourite of the series, this would probably be it.

Which is your least favourite of the books?

Harry Potter MotW #6: If you could be a character for a day, who would you be?

[This is a response to Leah’s Harry Potter moment of the week. If you’d like to join in, head on over to Uncorked Thoughts for the full schedule of upcoming themes!

The theme of this week’s Harry Potter Moment of the Week is the “If you could be a character for a day, who would you be?“.

Oooh this is one of the easier HP moments I’ve taken part in….

Luna seems like the most obvious choice to me, because she does what she wants and therefore has the most freedom!  If I wanted to be sociable I could go hang out with Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville and Ginny, but equally if I wanted to wander around staring at things like I’d never seen them before, no one would think anything of it 😉  I also think Luna would probably know the hidden secrets of Hogwarts because she’s observant like that.  I’d be able to see the Thestrals, to explore the Library and the Room of Requirement in peace, and play around with magical clothing (roaring hats anyone?) without anyone giving me a second glance!

Who wouold you want to be for the day?
