Top Ten Tuesday (#37): Top Ten Books I Would Love To See As A Movie/TV Show

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted at The Broke and The Bookish where they post a list idea and everyone is welcome to post the list with their own answers.  This week the theme is Top Ten Books I Would Love To See As A Movie/TV Show (set in a perfect world…in which movies don’t butcher the books we love.)

At first I really struggled to decide whether my choices would be better as a film or a TV show, but after thinking about things I love in a film compared to a TV show, I managed to choose five which I thought would be better as films, and five I’d rather see as TV. Broadly speaking if there’s a large cast of characters, or secondary characters I loved, they went on my TV list. If my love for the book was more about a beautiful setting or unusual plot, they went on my film list.

5 books/series I’d love to see as films:

1. Crewel
I absolutely loved the fantastic world-building and unusual premise of Crewel. I think The Guild would make a beautiful setting as well.

2. Cinder (review)
Another book with great world-building and an unusual plot, Cinder would make a great film. I think the premise might be a little TOO out-of-comfort-zone for people to want to get invested in a TV show though. Also, I found some elements very predictable, which would really wind me up in a TV show!

3. Ink (review)
Beautifully written setting and another unusual plot, Ink could easily be a big budget gorgeous fantasy movie.

4. The Scorpio Races
I very rarely read stand-alones, but I picked this up somewhere and really enjoyed it. I loved both Puck and Sean, and the plot had me hooked.

5. Splintered (review)
A beautiful but dark spin on Alice in Wonderland, this would make a fantastic Tim Burton-esque movie. The only real  reason I’d rather this was a film than a TV show, because honestly, Alice has been on TV a fair amount already, and it’d have to compete with shows like Once Upon a Time and Once Upon a Time In Wonderland.

5 books/series I’d love to see as TV shows:

1. The Belgariad/Mallorean series
This is one of my favourite series of all times, and it has something that would make for great TV – a cast of absolutely fantastic characters!

2. The Study Series
Kick-ass heroine, a dash of romance, excellently developed supporting characters and plenty of action: what more could you want from a TV show?!

3. Throne of Glass series (review)
This was one of my favourite reads so far this year, and I’d love to see it as a TV show. It could probably get away with being a film, but honestly a few hours of Celaena’s world would not be enough for me!

4. Conqueror series
This could so easily be a great TV show, and with all the historical shows on right now, why not throw in one based on Genghis Khan?! This is absolutely full of drama and plot twists,

5. The Selection
Ignoring all the drama around The Selection, I have to admit it made for easy, guilty-pleasure reading. I’d happily sit and watch a TV show based on it with a glass of wine and a big bar of chocolate!

BONUS – 1 movie adaptation I’d like to see re-done:

1. Eragon
I’ve still not actually seen the film, but I’ve heard nothing but criticism for it, and so I’d like to see this re-done well!

Which books would you love to see adapted for film or TV?

  1. Please, please: do yourself a favour and don’t watch Eragon movie – it really was awful. 🙁 The Inheritance Cycle used to be my favourite series, and the movie adaptation just was horrible. I had Eragon on my list as well, I really hope someone is brave enough and tries to make a remake out of it. I think the series really deserve a second chance! 🙂 Great picks!

  2. The study series would be amazing as either I think. It would be action packed and if it was a tv series it would definitely have the power to make you want to the next one straight away.
