Top Ten Tuesday (#41): Top Ten Books on my Winter TBR list

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted at The Broke and The Bookish where they post a list idea and everyone is welcome to post the list with their own answers.  This week the theme is Top Ten Books On My Winter 2013 TBR List

There are some really great books coming out, and it was really tough to narrow it down to 10 I’d like to read this season!  I’ve picked out three sequels, two standalones and two new series.  I’ve also included a couple of older releases I haven’t read yet because I’m supposed to be on a budget, and I know there are some older titles I really want to read that keep being forgotten about in favour of new books!  Here are the ten books I’d really love to read this winter.

The Sequels:

Taste of Darkness (Healer #3) – 31st December 2013
I’m a huge Maria V. Snyder fan, and this series has been no exception!  I always look forward to her latest book, and I can’t wait to get my hands on this one.

Cress (Lunar Chronicles #3) – 4th February 2014
I enjoyed both Cinder (though not quite as much as I expected to because of the hype) and Scarlet, and I’m really curious to see where the story goes.

Unhinged (Splintered #2) – 7th January 2014
I loved Splintered when I read it last year, because it was beautifully written and filled with amazing world-building.  I’m looking forward to seeing what A.G. Howard does next with it!

The Standalones:

Heartbeat – 28th January 2014
Every once in a while, the blurb for a contemporary draws me in, and encourages me to step away from the fantasy/sci-fi for a little while.  Recently, I keep eying up Heartbeat, because it sounds incredibly emotional and thought-provoking.

The Martian – 11th February 2014
This sounds equally amazing and terrifying!  The Martian sounds hugely gripping, (but also somewhat unnerving) and I love the fact it’s set on Mars.

The New Series:

Defy (Defy #1) – 7th January 2014
This sounds very in line with something Maria V. Snyder would write, or almost Throne of Glass-esque, which means I’ve got no chance of resisting it!  The only thing that makes me nervous is the love triangle, but I’m drawn in enough by the feisty heroine that I’ll give it a go!

Alienated (Alienated #1) – 4th February 2014
Aliens + mystery + romance + a blogger? Sounds intriguing, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this one!

The Ones I still haven’t got to:

The Book Thief
This is one that’s been on my list to read for ages, but I just haven’t got around to it! I don’t own it, and it never seems to be in stock at the library.  I’m determined to read it before the film, so I may just have to give in and buy a copy!

Code Name Verity
I bought this in a charity shop absolutely ages ago, but never got around to reading it.  I’m not even sure where it is on the shelves since I moved back home!  Everyone says great things about it though, so I’m putting it on my winter TBR list in the hope it motivates me to find it!

The Name of the Wind
I bought this last month, because it’s on my 101 fantasy list, but I haven’t started it yet.  I’m hoping to get around to it over Christmas, not least because my other half wants to borrow it too!

What’s on your Winter TBR list?
