Stacking the shelves

The Weekly Recap (#27)

This week on the blog

Just one book for me this week.  We were liars is 99p on Kindle so I thought I might as well give it a go since I’ve heard such great things about it!

Total spend: £0.99

My Week

This week has been busy but great.  I was at work during the week obviously, but Tuesday night I went to see How to Train Your Dragon 2 with a couple of friends (because we’re cool like that), I went for dinner with my family Wednesday, to a friend’s house for board games and food Thursday and then for cocktails and dinner with my family last night.  So a busy but good week.

I also got both good and bad news this week – my contract at work has been extended.  Obviously this is great news in terms of helping pay towards my MSc, but I had envisioned 8 weeks off for reading/blogging/visiting Matt and I’ll now have about a week, so that’s not quite so fun.  I’m definitely going to have to adjust my reading goals for the year, as I was planning to get a lot done in that time off!

Other than that nothing exciting to report really.  My new laptop arrived but we’re not getting on well – Windows updated itself and now everytime I log in I get ‘Please wait’…indefinitely.  I’ve tried various solutions, and I’ve got a pain in the ass temporary workaround so I can get in but if you’ve got a solution I would LOVE to hear it!

Finished: Fool’s Assassin (Robin Hobb), The Jewel (Amy Ewing)

Up Next: Absolutely no idea! Probably something off my shelves before joining in with ARC August next week (sign up post to come!)

  1. Ack, what’s wrong with laptops lately?! I’ve heard about that bug before, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Glad to hear you had a good week! It must be quite of a shock to know you only have one week of vacation now.

Ooo, ARC August, I should sign up too!

    1. We’ve figured out that if I create a local account, I can get into that, turn off the process that’s causing the issue and then switch back but it only lasts until shut down!

Yeah I was due to finish next week and then I’d have been off right the way until the first week of October! Now I’m working next week, off for a week since Matt’s home, and then back to work until nearly the end of September. But hey, at least it’s paying off my laptop!

And you should sign up to ARC August – you did amazingly with the Wicked wildfire readathon! The beat the heat readathon is on from the 11th (I think) until the end of the month too, so I’ll probably sign up for both.

  2. Grrr laptops…the bane of my existence. I don’t think I’ve ever owned one without it having issues almost right out of the box. I sure hope yours sorts itself out. Oh and YAY for more work but booo for it cutting on reading/blogging time. I hate when real life gets in the way of hobbies hehe XD I guess we all gotta work though! Oh and cool that you already finished Fool’s Assassin and read The Jewel too; those two are upcoming for me as well, we’ll have to compare notes! Happy reading 🙂
