Top Ten Tuesday (#68): Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a feature hosted at The Broke and The Bookish where they post a list idea and everyone is welcome to post the list with their own answers. This week is “Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors”

[Worth noting that I’m not considering pseudonyms, just books written under the names below]

One series was enough

For the authors below, I’ve only currently read (or they’ve only currently written) books from one series, but I loved that series enough to put the author on my auto-buy list and to count them as a favourite.

George R.R. Martin

Stats: 7 read, 7 owned
Favourite Book/Series: Either Storm of Swords or Dance with Dragons
Love this author for: Epic casts of characters | Drama and twists to keep you guessing | Grey characters – no black and white good or evil here!

No real revelations amongst my favourite authors, and the same themes keep popping up you’ll notice.  Apparently the most important things for me are kick-ass characters, big casts of characters, great magic and world-building!

Who are your favourite authors? (And most importantly, which book of theirs should I start with?!)

  1. Wonderful selection here Faith^^ JKR and SJM obviously made my list too 😀 No big surprise there haha! I do like Kelley Armstrong quite a bit but I’ve only read one trilogy by her. Most of the rest of her stuff is on my tbr shelf though 😉 I still need to read the books I own by Maria V. Snyder and Kristin Cashore and I seriously need to get into Robin Hobb and GRRM already. Gah! And well, I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of David Eddings *cringe* but I’m off to add Pawn of Prophecy to my tbr shelf!

  2. What a great list! I’d planned to include GRRM on my own and somehow got to ten without him – honestly, though, this was a really tough week!

I do love that you’ve got Conn Iggulden on your list. It’s been ages since I read him (I’d started both his Emperor and Conqueror series WAY back there but didn’t finish either one).
