Harry Potter month

My Harry Potter profile

HP month badge2016As you may have heard, Micheline and I are hosting Harry Potter month throughout the month of July – a celebration of all things Harry Potter! If you’d like to join in, feel free! You can post about pretty much anything Harry Potter related, or take part in the House Cup at any time throughout the month, and we’d love to have you share your love for HP!

So Lee did an awesome post on her Harry Potter profile, and it seemed like so much fun I just had to join in! I’ve been a bit slow to get going with HP month this year thanks to the fact I was away for the first week, but this seemed like an absolutely perfect way to throw myself into things.  Inspired by her, I’ve filled out the profile she made with my own answers, as well as a couple of extra questions that came to me as I was writing.

  • Name: Faith
  • Hogwarts House: Slytherin
  • Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
  • Year I Discovered HP: I think 1998 – I remember having read it before my teacher started reading it to our class in what I think would have been 1999
  • Last Time I Read the Books: 2015 for Harry Potter month!
  • Favorite Book: Half-Blood Prince
  • Favorite Film: Oooh, tricky. I think maybe Goblet of Fire.
  • Favorite Character: Hermione Granger & Draco Malfoy
  • Character I Most Identify With: Hermione Granger for sure – her love of books, studying, researching, her enthusiasm for the wizarding world,
  • Character I Wish I Were More Like: Luna Lovegood – she doesn’t care what other people think of her, she’s totally comfortable in herself, and she’s so carefree and anti-stress, whereas I’m too easily worried by things that stress me out and by other people’s opinions. Plus she’s an amazing friend.
  • Spell I’d Use Right This Moment: Lumos because while I’ve been on my laptop it got pretty dark and I didn’t really notice…
  • Wizarding treat I wish I could eat right now: Honeydukes’ best chocolate – a boring choice perhaps, but I LOVE chocolate, and I want to see how Honeydukes’ best would be better than our Muggle chocolate
  • Wizarding Drink of choice: Firewhiskey for sure! I love (American) whiskey, and butterbeer sounds a bit too sickly, even for me!
  • Pet I’d have at Hogwarts: a cat – I’d much rather have a cat who can curl up on my lap than an owl who I have to send away to the Owlery or else feel like the cruelest owner ever!
  • Class I think I’d be best at: Potions! I’m pretty methodical so I hope that’d help!
  • Class I think I’d be worst at: sadly, probably Quidditch – I’m just not co-ordinated, and I don’t think putting me on a broom would change that…
  • Kiss, Kill, Marry (Marauders Edition): Following Lee’s logic I’m going to discount Wormtail because no one likes him.  So between the remaining Marauders, *takes a deep breath and prepares for the outrage* I’d marry Remus, kiss Sirius and kill James. Sorry!
  • Fred or George: Fred 🙁
  • Canon or fanon pairings: Fanon all the way! I have a post (possibly multiple) coming up about my favourite ships.

  1. I have a post whipped up like this one too^^ but now that I see the questions you added I’m going to tweak mine a bit 😀 I really love Half Blood Prince too ♥ And obviously, I’d have a cat at Hogwarts too LOL! I love how early you got into the series, I was SUPER late – they came out when I was like 18 and at that point, I’d never heard of them even o_O I #fail. Oh and I can’t wait for your fanon post(s)

  2. I still don’t know how I never knew about HP until 2001 when the first film came out! How is it possible?! Anyway, I love your post. I’m also a Thunderbird but a Ravenclaw. I also identify strongly with Hermione and I’d love to be more like Luna. HBP is a book that I both love and hate. I love it because it’s excellent and it’s actually fun to see a more grown-up trio and learn all that stuff about Voldemort, but I hate it because so many awful and heart-breaking things happen there. As for GoF film, I must confess that when I saw it for the first time, it was the first film that I didn’t like at all, but having recently re-watched it with my students, I realized how great and fun and epic it is and how much I actually enjoy it. So now it’s gotta be one of my favourites)))

  3. These posts are fun! I saw Lee’s and plan on doing one as well. I really enjoy the canon ships, but I look forward to your post to see what your favorites look like! I am pretty sure I started reading the series in 2000, and the last time I read it was for Harry Potter month last year too. I don’t think I’ll have time to start the books now, but I do plan on watching all the movies. Thunderbird sounded like the house I would’ve loved to be in! I love phoenixes and that’s what it reminds me of. I looked up some history on it after reading what Rowling had because I wanted to know more. I am not in Thunderbird though LOL. I got Pukwudgie. I LOVE that your two favorite characters are so different.

  4. I love this! I don’t know if I’ll find anything to post about in July (Harry Potter-related that is), but I think I’ll definitely do a profile!

As much as I love quidditch, I would probably be horrible at it also. I have a fear of falling which attacks me when I’m feeling unstable in high places… so yeah, me on a broomstick? Bad idea. But let’s pretend I would be an awesome Beater for the Slytherin team, okay? 😀
HBP used to be one of my least favorite books but my fondness for it has grown a lot over the years and now I really love it. Before I used to think it was really dark because of the Voldemort backstory, but as I got older I started to notice the ridiculous highschool behavior that was going on which is HILARIOUS. The book is a pretty nice balance of funniness and darkness.
I definitely have to do one of these posts soon.

  6. Yay- a fellow Thunderbird! I so wish I could learn to be a lot more like Luna and not get ruffled so easily. I would absolutely love to try Honeydukes’ chocolate, too! I could totally picture myself spending a ton of money on it, lol. For Kiss, Kill, Marry, I also killed poor James; I was 100% marrying Sirius and totally wanted to kiss Lupin, so by process of elimination, that only left James. 🙁

  7. I love the additional questions you answered! I chose Hermione and Luna for identify/emulating characters too. I would also say Fred, which is why it was so hard. (though it wouldn’t have been any easier had it been George.) I would definitely want to try Firewhiskey, thought I’m not sure I’d like it. I’m a cider person, not a wine or beer drinker. :/ This is a great post!
