ARC August Progress: Week 4

ARC-August-2014

Reading this week

Number of books completed: 1
Total # pages read: 460
Number of reviews scheduled/posted: 1 (The Girl with All the Gifts)

Plan for the last two days (!):

I came home to a copy of Red Rising on Wednesday (which I must say was a much appreciated boost after a really boring day at work!), which I’ve started but not yet made much progress on.  I’d like to read a serious chunk of that over the weekend, or ideally finish it before the end of ARC August if I can, so that’s my focus for the next two days.

ARC August stats

Number of ARCS completed: 7

Average pages read per day: 71

ARC August Progress: Week 3

ARC-August-2014

My week

I felt like I’d made absolutely zero progress on ARC August this week, but it turns out I’d done more than I thought! Although I’ve barely read at all since Monday, I got a lot of reading done over the weekend and finished 2 ARCs, so I’ve now hit my reading goal!

Reading this week

Number of books completed: 2
Total # pages read: 866
Number of reviews scheduled/posted: 1 (No In Between)

Plan for next week:

I’m hoping the bank holiday will give me a little boost this weekend, but I’m also working on some upcoming blog stuff so I’m not sure how much I’ll get done.  I’ve started The Girl With All The Gifts and I’d ideally like to get that read and two reviews scheduled this week.  Other than that I don’t have any real plans – I’ll be trying to make some progress on Bout of Books but those won’t necessarily be ARCs so I’m not including them in my target!

ARC August stats

Number of ARCS completed: 6
Total # pages read: 1599
Average pages read per day: 117
ARC Sources: Netgalley (5), RealReaders (1)
Number of reviews scheduled/posted: 2 (Fool’s Assassin, Apple and Rain & No In Between),

ARC August Progress: Week 2

ARC-August-2014

My week

Pretty pleased with my progress this week!  Another 2 books read, which takes me up to 4 in total.  My goal for the month was set at 5 so I’m well on track for that side of things!  I also finally wrote and scheduled some reviews so that’s a start on my (perhaps over-ambitious goal!) of 7.

Reading this week

Number of books completed: 2
Total # pages read: 895
Number of reviews scheduled/posted: 2 (Fool’s Assassin & Apple and Rain),

Plan for next week:

I’ve got a pretty busy week ahead this week, so just trying to get through Little Lies this week.  I’m at a barbecue on Saturday, then Matt’s home Sunday-Wednesday, and I’m at work all week too, so not expecting to do quite so well this week!  I’d like to try and read all of Little Lies and write at least one review though.

ARC August Progress: Week 1

ARC-August-2014

My week

This week was very busy as Matt finally came home from his research project. We spent a lot of time socialising and seeing family and didn’t actually get very much time to just chill out!  He’s now back at uni and I’m back at work so everything is generally back to normal.  It’s much nicer though that we can text or phone whenever, and knowing we can visit in just a few hours if we want to 😀  All in all a nice but very busy week!  I managed to keep up reasonably well with ARC August but not so much with blogging!

Reading

Number of books completed: 2 / 5
Total # pages read: 704
Number of reviews written/scheduled: 0 / 7

Plan for next week:

I managed to get a pretty reasonable amount of reading done this week despite how busy we were, and I’m hoping to do as well again over the next week since I don’t have much on except work.

In terms of reading choices I’d like to start Apple & Rain and Heir of Fire.  I’d also like to try and get reviews at least started for The Queen of The Tearling, No In Between and Fool’s Assassin since my review progress this week was non-existent! Obviously if I can get some of them scheduled that would be better so I’ll have to see what I can do!

ARC August & Beat the Heat Readathon: Sign up & Goals

ARC-August-2014BeatHeatRATbutton2ndA1

ARC August takes place (as you might have guessed!) in August, and the aim is to work your way through some of those ARCs you’ve got sitting around.  I’ll be using it mostly to work on improving my Netgalley ratio.

The Beat the Heat Readathon conveniently takes place for the last three weeks of ARC August, so it just makes sense to take part in both doesn’t it? 😉

My life in August

Well, I had planned to have all of August off (woohoo!) but my contract at work has now been extended so I’ll have a lot less free time than I had thought! Matt will also be coming home from his project (finally!) so I’ll be spending some time with him too.  Despite that, I want to try and make some progress on NetGalley – and to a lesser extent – Edelweiss so I’ll be reading as much as I can around those things.

Some of the titles I’ll hopefully be choosing from (in order of publication)

My goals:

Read 5 ARCs +
I’m trying to set a realistic goal because else I get disheartened about how behind I am and that’s when I get tempted to say “Forget it, I’m too behind now anyways” etc etc.  I think 5 is a reasonable goal, though I hope to get through more.  If I go up to visit Matt at some point (depending on getting time off work and how his dissertation is going) that’d be a big help in terms of reading because I’d have the train there/back and plenty of time during the day when he’s writing up.  BUT since my plans aren’t set at all yet, I’m going with a – hopefully reasonable – goal of 5 ARCs (but ideally more).

Write 7 reviews (this would push me over that 60% hurdle I have yet to break!)
So, as you know Rinn and I have been spurring each other on to get out NetGalley ratios above 80%.  I’ve made huge progress from about 17% (yes honestly) to in the 50s…but I’ve been between 50 and 55% forever.  If I could get 7 NetGalley reviews done that’d push me over the 60% mark at last!

Update!
I am absolutely terrible at updating during readathons so I’m determined to do better during ARC August/Beat the Heat.  I never know how often to update though – I love reading daily updates, but with readathons this long my post would end up enormous!  How often do you update?!
